CASE #1: Shanghai Telecom ADSL BroadBand Access System (Nortel Shasta)

From 2001 , ShangHai telecom started to set up the broadband access based on the ADSL technique on large scale. No matter the ATM interface uplink or Ethernet interface uplink connection all aggregated to the device Nortel SHASTA5000, SHASTA5000 function as the BAS (Broadband Access Service), terminated all the ADSL connection, authenticated by RADIUS servers, manage every ADSL broadband subscriber and connected to the IP core backbone.

In this Case , Every SHASTA5000 configured several STM-1 ATM or FE interface, these interfaces uplink to different DSLAM devices individually . And 2 GE interfaces configured to connect with the IP CORE backbone Routers. And because of the Nortel SHASTA5000’s strong & trusted broadband subscribers access manager system , SHANGHAI Telecom can aggregate thousands of the broadband users logically and smoothly, which also provide the high quality IP services to the terminal users . These IP services include VPN, manageable firewall, QOS,and captive portal etc.

This system was put into used from 2001, running steady and safety, highly appreciated by Shanghai Telecom. And the numbers of the ADSL broadband access subscribers increases continually , will also add some value-added services based on the broadband access.

 

CASE #2 : Shanghai Online Email & Domain Project Phase 5

Shanghai online 5th phase project started from Jan 2001 , which was consisted of 5 function module: network layer, service manager system ,email application layer, Network Manager system,  security system . The main goal of the email application layer was setting up two physical nodes distributed unified email system based on the shanghai online project phase 4 .  The designed totally capacity was 1,600,000 users. Cooperated with the load sharing of the WAN, this layer enhanced the system processing ability .

Phase 5 email system is a integrated system which distributed on the two separated Physical nodes, to realize a nice load sharing function in WAN and MAN.  The daily average email-processing ability already reach to 9,600,000 emails.  Phase 5 project also done a large capacity expansion to the original email system, and some modification of the system backup & redundancy policies. Added 9 frontier servers in liangcheng node.  Also realized key data backup on separate physical location. To make the system more reliable and steady .

 

CASE #3: Shanghai Mobile BOSS System DWDM Platform

In 2005, Shanghai mobile took Nortel OM5200 as the platform devices for the upgrade & expansion BOSS system .  DWDM can carry multi-service by one fiber-pair simultaneously. Every OM5200 can support 32 wavelengths, maximal 82 Gbps bandwidth on one fiber-pair .

This project was the upgrade and expansion to the original DWDM system, totally set up 3 nodes, distributed into the Shanghai Mobile original 3 core POP nodes. Between each POP nodes , the nearest distance is 6 KM, and the farthest distance can reach 16 KM, modify the original single-ring design to dual ring redundancy design, which make sure the data transfer continues if any of the fiber link between random 2 nodes breaks ( DWDM dual-ring redundancy switch time below 10ms). The maximal bandwidth also reach to 160Gbps (bidirectional) for the possible future’s development requirement.


CASE #4: China National Telephone Intelligence Network System

This project was the first set of the intelligent telephone system in china .  Which took 30+ Alpha Servers installed highly security and reliable UNIX OS , with large databank to record the user’s data and operation data.  Holdfast cooperate with the telephone switch vender to provide the servers and network platform , also participated with the Research & testing of the telephone intelligent network.
This intelligent system provided the services as below:  telephone card (300) service ,Virtual Network (600) service, be-called payment (800) services, and telephone vote (VOT) , UPT, MAS, CPC, NP services etc…

This system has already brought enormous social and economic interest to China Postal deparment . After this system, Holdfast group also help china telecom, China Unicom, shanghai telecom, Beijing telecom, tianjing telecom and 15 province’s telecom department to set up the intelligent telephone platform. Also with the high quality of the maintenance services .


CASE #5: Shanghai Telecom VPN Access Network (Based on ATM Platform)


Shanghai Telecom started to deploy the ATM cloud with the Nortel’s ATM devices from 1999 in the city .  The core switch device is Nortel Passport15k, access switch is Nortel Passport8470. This ATM network play a very important role in the aggregation of the ADSL subscribers, Interconnecting between the different Broadband services.

This system running steady and well-function, which reinforce the access service to the ATM networks and other applications as well.
